We are currently fabricating a bulk storage tank for sulphuric acid 96% with a working capacity of 15,000 litres. The wall thickness at the base of the cylinder needs to be immense to cope with such a dense chemical and this can clearly be seen in the photograph. We use RITA4 software to model our tanks and ensure that they comply with the DVS2205 standard. There is some debate about whether HDPE should be used to build tanks for concentrated sulphuric acid but the evidence from Helix tanks, that have been in the field for decades, is that if properly constructed, they are a viable and cost effective alternative to steel tanks. Extruder welding of any seams by experienced fabricators is also key. At Helix Tanks (a Moor Fabs company), you can be sure that you are in safe hands.
